Tiernan leads East Tennessee State men’s golf at Tar Heel Intercollegiate

East Tennessee State University’s men’s golf team finished its regular season with its first appearance at the Tar Heel Intercollegiate, held in Chapel Hill over Saturday and Sunday, April 11.

The event marked an important milestone for the team as it prepared for postseason play. The tournament provided the golfers with an opportunity to compete against strong opponents and gain experience ahead of the upcoming Southern Conference Championship.

Tiernan recorded his third top-10 finish of the season, ending the tournament with a score of seven under par. This was also his first event this season where he posted under-par scores in all three rounds. The team’s overall performance included individual highlights such as eagles and multiple birdies across rounds from several players.

In round one, Tiernan shot a 67 (three under par) with one eagle and four birdies. Other notable performances included a 69 (one under par) from another player and Veigar Heidarsson’s round of 75 (five over par). In subsequent rounds, Heidarsson improved to shoot a 67 (three under), while other teammates contributed scores ranging from two under to five over par across various rounds.

The final standings saw Tiernan tied for fourth place at seven under par. Teammates finished tied for thirtieth (+2), forty-third (+5), forty-ninth (+6), and sixty-eighth (+11). The team finished with a combined score of two over par.

Looking ahead, East Tennessee State men’s golf will return to action April 27-29 at Solina Golf Club in West Columbia, South Carolina for the 2026 Southern Conference Championship.
