Ending their final road conference match of the year Friday afternoon, the ETSU men’s tennis team stumbled, 4-3, against Chattanooga.
With the setback, the Bucs dip to 7-10 overall and 3-2 in SoCon play. Improving to 7-1 at the UTC Tennis Center in Chattanooga, Tenn., the Mocs remain 2-0 in conference play and post a 12-4 overall record.
Zooming their way to their first victory as a doubles pairing, Francisco Lamas (Maracay, Venezuela) and Thiago Pernas (Buenos Aires, Argentina) sailed to 6-2 win over Ryan Mudre and Jordan McClure in the No. 3 doubles match. However, the Mocs took the first point as they captured the doubles matches on Courts No. 1 & 2.
After falling behind 2-0 early, Pernas extended his personal win streak to five straight on Court 2, breezing past Simon Labbe in a couple of 6-3 set wins – giving the Blue and Gold their first point. Suffering his first defeat in over a month, Dimitri Badra (Maracay, Venezuela) fell 6-3 and 6-4 in straight sets to Kerim Hyatt to give Chattanooga the 3-1 advantage.
Battling for a 6-4 set one victory, Pedro Cressoni (Sao Paulo, Brazil) eased past Peyton Gatti, 6-2, in the second set to earn his fifth individual win of the season – keeping ETSU within one point. After Chattanooga secured their fourth point of the match, Lamas completed the comeback to steal the third point for ETSU, winning the second set 6-1 and third set 6-3.
