Tusculum University Ninth-ranked North Georgia shuts out Pioneers

Ninth-ranked University of North Georgia swept Tusculum University 7-0 in non-conference women's tennis action Saturday afternoon.

The Nighthawks (4-0) dropped one set in singles to the Pioneers (3-3) to earn their third shutout in four matches this spring. North Georgia will be participating in the ITA National Team Indoor Championship in Kearney, Nebraska next weekend.

North Georgia won the doubles point by claiming the first two matches, then earned straight-set victories in the first three completed singles matches to clinch the victory. Tusculum's lone set win came at flight three, where Paulina Loretz fell in a tiebreaker to Anna Markvartova 11-9 after splitting the first two sets 6-4 and 4-6.

Tusculum will open its South Atlantic Conference schedule on Monday, Feb. 20 at Mars Hill, beginning at 1 p.m.
