Milligan University junior swimmers Stephen Gilbert and Gabby MacPherson were tabbed as the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Swimmers of the Week, the league office announced on Monday.
Gilbert and MacPherson posted a slew of first-place finish and national provisional swims in a pair of meets this past weekend. The Buffs hosted Lees-McRae on Friday and swam at Liberty University's natatorium against Lynchburg and Roanoke. The Buffs defeated all three teams in men's and women's head-to-head action.
Gilbert notched first-place finishes and national provisional times in the 200-meter backstroke (2:17.42) and 200-meter individual medley (2:13.83) against Lees-McRae. He added another provisional swim in the 50-meter freestyle (24.31).
Against Lynchburg and Roanoke, Gilbert took first in the 100-yard back (53.12), 100-yard butterfly (50.77) and 400-yard IM (4:13.98) with NAIA provisional marks in each event.
MacPherson hit national standards in all four individual events she swam. On Friday, MacPherson won the 100-meter fly in 1:01.01 and the 200 fly in 2:29.27. She went on to win the 100-yard fly (59.94) and finish second in the 200 fly (2:14.28) at Liberty on Saturday. MacPherson set the Buffs' pool record in 200 fly on Friday evening.
