Milligan College Buffs set eight pool records in home opener against Lees-McRae

Milligan University's men's and women's swim teams swept Lees-McRae in the and set eight pool records in the Buffs' first home dual meet of the 2022-23 season.

Milligan triumphed 183.5-70.5 in the men's meet and took a 166-82 dual victory on the women's side.

The Buffs opened the meet with a school record time in the women's 400-meter medley relay. Tyler Cates, Kaylee Williams, Gabby MacPherson and Liz Mahan swam 4:31.15, five seconds faster than the previous record.

Williams set both of Milligan's pool records with national provisional times in the 100 breast (1:15.99) and 200 breast (2:51.62).

MacPherson set the Buffs' 200-meter butterfly pool record with a national provisional swim of 2:29.27. She also notched a first-place swim and provisional time in the 100 free (1:01.01).

Riley Renaud set broke a 2017 pool record in the women's 800 meter freestyle in 9:38.80.

Samantha van Vuure won the women's 100-meter backstroke in a pool record and national provisional time of 1:08.55. Cates set the women's 200 back pool record in 2:27.82, also a provisional mark.

Andre Bazzana set the pool record in the 100-meter butterfly (57.96) and won the 200-meter free (1:59.15) and 200 fly (2:29.27) with provisional times.

Mary Grace Bitting won the 200-meter freestyle (2:11.48) and the 200 individual medley (2:29.54) with an NAIA provisional times.

Caleb Fry (23.93) and Stephen Gilbert (24.31) swam to provisional times in the 50 free. Fry won the 100 free with a provisional swim of 53.63. Fry won the 100 free with a provisional time of 53.63. Fry also out-touched the competition by less than a second as the Buffs roared back to win the 200 meter freestyle relay to close the event.

Peter Gilbert hit a national provisional qualifying time and set a pool record in the 400 free (4:06.36).

Milligan travels to Liberty University tomorrow for a tri-meet against Lynchburg and Roanoke at noon.
