The Milligan University women's basketball team drained a dozen three-pointers and outscored Johnson (Tenn.) in all four quarters in an 87-51 victory on Tuesday evening in Knoxville.
The victory moves Milligan to 10-4 on the season with an 8-2 record in Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) action. Johnson falls to 3-9, 1-8 AAC.
Johnson led 14-10 through six minutes of action but Milligan responded with a 9-0 spurt to take a lead the Buffs would never relinquish.
Milligan exploded for 31 points in the second quarter to grow the Buffs' lead to 53-25 at the half. In the period, the Buffs made seven-of-10 three-pointers in the quarter with Kayla Romines, Kaylee Hendrickson and Semaj Clark each canning two threes apiece.
The Buffs grew their edge to 30 points early in the second half and cruised to the 36-point victory.
Clark scored a career high 18 points on seven-of-11 shooting from the field with four three-pointers and three assists. Stacia Wilson added 13 points, four rebounds and three blocks. Madi Runnels recorded 12 points, six rebounds, four blocks and three assists. Romines made it four Buffs in double-figures as she finished with 10 points and four steals.
Milligan matched a season high with 12 made three-pointers. The Buffs won the rebounding battle 53-30 and finished with 11 blocks, the second-highest single-game total for the squad this season.
The Buffs travel to Columbia (S.C.) on Thursday evening for a 5:30 p.m. tipoff.
