Milligan University freshmen swimmers Peter Gilbert and Mary Grace Bitting were named Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) swimmers of the week on Monday.
The Buffs took on St. Thomas last Wednesday during the Buffs' annual Florida training trip. It was the program's first-ever outdoor dual meet and first official competition in the sunshine state.
Gilbert swam to a pair of first-place finishes in the distance freestyle events. He finished first in 1000-yard freestyle in 10:00.11 and won the 500 free in 4:45.65, an NAIA provisional time. Gilbert ranks top-five nationally in the 500-, 1000- and 1650-yard freestyle events.
Bitting set Milligan's 100-yard individual medley record in 1:01.90. She also posted an NAIA provisional swim in the 50-yard freestyle (25.34) as a part of Milligan's mixed 4x50 relay. Bitting added a third-place finish in the 100 free (56.63).
The Buffs' men's and women's swim teams both finished their fall semester schedule ranked fourth nationally in the swimcloud NAIA championship rankings. Milligan swimming returns to action Jan. 13 against Lees-McRae.
