In a joint effort between the Washington County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) and the Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), a federal search warrant was executed on a home in the 1200 block of Meadowview Avenue in Johnson City today.
Washington County Investigators and HSI, assisted by Johnson City Police and detectives from the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office, served the warrant and Shawn M. Zona, 29 of Johnson City, was arrested by WCSO. Zona is charged with Aggravated Sexual Exploitation of a Minor. He admitted to downloading and sharing child pornography on the internet.
“Our investigators, working with a special agent specifically assigned to our Criminal Investigations Division by HSI to investigate child pornography cases, did an excellent job,” said Sheriff Keith Sexton. “As other agencies assist with the investigation, we expect additional charges for Zona.”
WCSO booked Zona into the Washington County Detention Center without incident. He is being held on a $50,000 bond and scheduled to be in Sessions Court at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 21. The investigation is ongoing and additional charges are pending.
