Milligan College Women’s Golf carries top-20 national rankings into spring semester

The Milligan University women's golf team finished its fall semester slate with top-20 national rankings from Golfstat and the NAIA as the Buffs rank No. 15 by Golfstat and No. 13 in the final NAIA Coaches' Top 25 fall rankings.

The Buffs finished ahead of 10 teams ranked in Golfstat's top 30 over the course of the fall. Milligan also ranked fifth nationally in Golfstat's score vs. par.

Across six fall events, the Buffs recorded three tournament titles and a runner-up showing. Milligan won the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Fall Preview by six strokes. The Buffs also collected team titles at The Links at Kahite Invitational and the East Tennessee Collegiate. Milligan finished as the runner-up in the OUAZ Phoenix Invitational in Arizona and finished third at the Eagle Match Play Invitational with head-to-head victories over Faulkner and No. 19 Cumberlands.Milligan set its team single-round (295) and 36-hole (603) program records at the East Tennessee Collegiate.

Sophomore Kate Castle set Milligan's single-round (69) and 36-hole (143) individual records to win earn medalist honors at the AAC Fall Championship Preview. Castle ranks No. 78 nationally, is second on the roster with a 75.2 scoring average and logged four top-10 finishes in the fall. Castle clinched the Buffs' match play victory over Cumberlands with a birdie on the 20th hole.

Graduate Alayna Perryman is the Buffs' highest-rated player at No. 56 nationally with a team-best 74.7 average. She scored top-10 finishes in every event this fall.

Junior Gabby Hammond and freshman Mallory TeVrucht both collected top-150 individual rankings through the fall season. Hammond sits No. 143 in the NAIA individual rankings after recording a 77 scoring average and notching three top-10 finishes. Her two-under 71 in the first round of the East Tennessee Collegiate helped propel the Buffs to a record-setting tournament victory. TeVrucht posted a 78.4 tournament average during her fall debut and ranks 148th in the NAIA.

Milligan opens up its spring season at the Chattahoochee Intercollegiate in Georgia on March 13-14.
