Milligan senior Lauren Petty, of Jackson, Tennessee, will present a fine arts show running Nov. 13-22 in the Milligan Art Gallery, located in Derthick Hall.
Titled “Surrounded,” the showcase will feature paintings, drawings, photographs, prints, personal pieces of writing and macrame. Petty drew inspiration from numerous art movements.
“I know art is my escape and my way to express emotion, and I hope at least for a little while, people can get lost in my work and find something relatable in it,” said Petty, who named the show “Surrounded” because the pieces follow the theme of important people who influenced her life and faith.
Petty also drew inspiration from pop art, surrealism and expressionist portraits.
“It’s been wonderful observing Lauren’s point of view and art technique flourish in the last few semesters. I think the work explicitly conveys her fearless approach to her work,” said Kelsey Ellis, instructor of art.
