The East Tennessee State University (ETSU) men’s tennis team lost to Samford in the Southern Conference (SoCon) Tournament championship on April 18, ending their run with a 4-2 defeat. The loss moves ETSU’s record to 21-4 for the season.

This result is significant as ETSU entered the tournament as the top seed, while Samford was seeded second. The outcome marks Samford’s second consecutive SoCon Tournament Championship.

Samford gained an early advantage by winning the doubles point with victories of 6-3 and 6-4. Although ETSU managed a win at No. 1 doubles by a score of 6-4, it was not enough to secure the overall doubles point. In singles play, Samford extended its lead before ETSU responded with back-to-back wins to tie the score at two matches each. With momentum shifting, Samford clinched victory by taking two three-set matches.

The singles results included Sandeep Mohandoss of Samford defeating his opponent from ETSU in three sets (2-6, 6-3, 6-4), and Darcy Nicholls of Samford winning in straight sets (6-1, 6-3). Other matches saw split victories between both teams before Lukas Dvorak sealed another point for Samford with a comeback win.

The match concludes an otherwise strong season for ETSU and gives Samford another conference title. Full results are available through official sources for those seeking more details about individual performances.
