East Tennessee State University men’s tennis player Oscar Martinez was named the Southern Conference Player of the Week by the league office on March 24. This marks his fourth time receiving this honor during the current season and is the fifth occasion a Buccaneer has been recognized with this award in spring competition.

The recognition highlights Martinez’s strong performance last week, when he helped lead ETSU to road victories against Florida Gulf Coast and nationally ranked No. 71 Florida Atlantic University. In doubles play, Martinez and his partner won both matches with scores of 6-3 and 6-4. In singles action, Martinez also secured two wins with set scores of 7-5, 6-4 and 7-6 (7-5), 6-4.

Martinez and his doubles partner Vergara now hold a record of ten wins and two losses this spring season. As an individual competitor in singles matches, Martinez has achieved thirteen wins against just one loss.

The Buccaneers are scheduled to return to competition on March 27 when they host Wofford for another Southern Conference matchup at home beginning at 1 p.m.
