The No. 68 East Tennessee State University (ETSU) men’s tennis team will travel to Florida for two non-conference matches, according to a March 16 announcement. The Buccaneers are scheduled to face Florida Gulf Coast University on Tuesday morning at 10 a.m., followed by a match against Florida Atlantic University (FAU) on Wednesday at 5 p.m.

This trip comes as the Buccaneers are experiencing one of their strongest stretches in recent years. After recent victories over UNC Greensboro and Mercer, ETSU has secured 12 consecutive dual match wins, bringing their overall record to 12-3. This marks the team’s longest single-season winning streak since they won 15 straight matches in 2016.

Florida Gulf Coast enters Tuesday’s contest with an overall record of 8-9. The Eagles have recently achieved back-to-back wins against Fordham and Bucknell, both by scores of 4-1. Their performance has been stronger at home or neutral sites, where they hold a combined record of 6-2, compared to a 2-7 mark in away games.

FAU currently holds a record of 6-6 for the season. Four of their six victories have come at home, but they recently lost their first home match last Friday against Rice with a score of 4-0.

Historically, ETSU and Florida Gulf Coast were rivals in the Atlantic Sun Conference during the mid-to-late 2000s and have played each other ten times, with ETSU winning every encounter. Against FAU, the Owls lead the series narrowly with three wins out of five previous meetings; ETSU’s last win over FAU was in 2017 by a score of 4-2.
