ETSU men’s tennis player Kai Cowcher has been named the Southern Conference (SoCon) Player of the Week, according to an announcement from the league office on Tuesday. This is Cowcher’s first career weekly award during his time with the Buccaneers and marks the fifth occasion an ETSU player has received this recognition.

Cowcher achieved a 3-0 record last week, including two singles wins and one doubles victory, as ETSU secured wins over UNC Asheville and No. 42 Charlotte. In Wednesday’s match against UNC Asheville, Cowcher won his singles match 6-2, 6-3 and contributed to a 6-0 doubles win. On Sunday, he recorded a 6-4, 6-2 singles victory against Massimo Pizzigoni from nationally-ranked Charlotte, providing ETSU with its first point in a narrow 4-3 team win.

Cowcher and the Buccaneers will start their SoCon conference schedule next Wednesday, March 11, hosting UNC Greensboro in Johnson City. The match is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
