Ja’Kobi Gillespie, a celebrated alumnus of Greeneville High School, took the court on Tuesday, March 3, helping the Tennessee Volunteers claim a 78-59 win over the South Carolina Gamecocks.
The 6-foot-1 senior guard recorded eight points, 12 assists and two rebounds across 34 minutes of play.
Gillespie and the Volunteers next face the Vanderbilt Commodores at home on Saturday, March 7 at 2 p.m.
The week starting Monday, April 27 will feature action from these former Johnson City Metro area high school stars.
Martinez was named Southern Conference Player of the Year while Rojas received Coach of the Year honors for ETSU men’s tennis. Both Martinez and Vergara earned All-SoCon First Team selections following standout performances this spring.
The East Tennessee State University women’s tennis team advanced to the SoCon semifinals after shutting out Mercer. Key performances included dominant wins in both singles and doubles matches.
