The East Tennessee State University (ETSU) women’s tennis team lost to Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU) by a score of 4-3 on March 17, ending the Buccaneers’ nine-match winning streak.

The match was closely contested, with FGCU taking an early lead after securing the doubles point. Although ETSU managed a win in the No. 2 doubles flight, FGCU won the other two matches to claim the overall doubles point.

In singles play, ETSU appeared poised for another victory as three players secured straight-set wins. However, FGCU responded by winning three singles matches in three sets, ultimately clinching the match. The final results included victories for Nora Svensson and June Bjork of FGCU in hard-fought contests that went to three sets.

With this loss, ETSU’s season record moves to 10-3. The team will aim to rebound in its next non-conference matchup against Florida Atlantic University on Thursday at 10 a.m.
