ETSU women’s tennis team defeats Mercer in SoCon quarterfinals

The East Tennessee State University (ETSU) women’s tennis team won against Mercer with a 4-0 score in the Southern Conference (SoCon) Tournament quarterfinals on April 16 in Chattanooga. The victory improved ETSU’s season record to 14-7.

This win advances ETSU to the semifinals of the tournament, showing their strength as the No. 2 seed. The match began with ETSU winning two out of three doubles matches, securing an early lead.

In singles play, Millan earned a quick point for ETSU by defeating Mercer’s Tea Zivic with scores of 6-1 and 6-0. Another ETSU player secured her sixteenth consecutive singles win, bringing the team closer to victory. Lesauvage then clinched the deciding point for ETSU by beating Ines Homberg from Mercer, ending their match at 6-3 and 6-2.

Other singles matches were either unfinished or contributed further to the team’s overall performance. In doubles competition, Marina de Diego Quinones and Ines Homberg from Mercer won one match against ETSU, but ETSU took victories in the other two doubles contests.

ETSU will next face No. 3 seed Chattanooga in the semifinals on Friday at the Champions Club in Chattanooga, with first serve scheduled for 10 a.m.
