The East Tennessee State University (ETSU) women’s tennis team secured a place in the Southern Conference (SoCon) Tournament Final after defeating Chattanooga 4-2 in the semifinals on April 17.

This victory brings ETSU’s season record to 15-7 and positions them for a chance at the conference title. The match, held Friday morning, saw ETSU take an early lead by winning the doubles point with scores of 6-1 and 6-2.

In singles play, ETSU players won matches with scores of 6-1, 6-1 and 6-3, 6-0, putting the Buccaneers one point away from clinching. Chattanooga responded by winning two singles matches to narrow the gap to 3-2. However, ETSU stopped Chattanooga’s comeback as another Buccaneer player defeated Savannah Presson of Chattanooga with a score of 7-5, 6-4 to secure the overall win for ETSU.

Singles results included Addison Iacono of Chattanooga defeating an ETSU player (6-4, 6-1), while other matches saw wins for both teams and one unfinished contest. In doubles competition, two pairs from ETSU earned victories against their opponents from Chattanooga.

With this semifinal win, ETSU will face top-seeded Furman in the SoCon Tournament title match scheduled for Saturday afternoon at the Champions Club in Chattanooga. First serve is set for 1 p.m.
