The East Tennessee State University (ETSU) women’s tennis team is set to begin Southern Conference play this week, facing Western Carolina at home on Tuesday and UNC Greensboro on the road Saturday. ETSU currently holds a four-match winning streak and an overall spring record of 5-3.

The team recently secured a close 4-3 victory against Virginia Tech, marking only its second win ever over the Hokies. Since rejoining the Southern Conference in 2015, ETSU has consistently recorded no more than two losses per season in league play.

Western Carolina approaches Tuesday’s match with a 1-6 record for the spring. The Catamounts’ sole win came against Young Harris on February 10. Mariya Dobreva leads Western Carolina with a 5-2 singles record and, alongside Mia Miranda, has contributed to three of the team’s four doubles victories this season.

UNC Greensboro is seeking its first win of 2026 after starting with seven consecutive losses. The Spartans have lost their last sixteen matches dating back to last season.

ETSU maintains long-standing winning streaks against both upcoming opponents. The Bucs have won twenty straight matches against Western Carolina, whose last victory over ETSU was in 2002, and seventeen straight against UNC Greensboro, who last defeated ETSU in 2003.
