The East Tennessee State University (ETSU) women’s tennis team defeated the top-seeded Furman team by a score of 4-1 in the Southern Conference (SoCon) Tournament Championship match on April 18. The victory secured ETSU’s fourth SoCon Tournament title and earned them a place in the NCAA Women’s Tennis Tournament.

This win brings ETSU’s season record to 16-7. The result is significant as it gives the Buccaneers an automatic bid to compete in the upcoming NCAA Division I Women’s Tennis Championships, continuing their postseason journey.

“It was an amazing effort by our ladies,” said ETSU Director of Tennis. “I’m super proud of the way they represented themselves and ETSU. We were tough and resilient all weekend. Excited to go back to the NCAA Tournament. Go Bucs!”

ETSU started strong by winning the doubles point, which set an early tone for the match. Although Furman’s Elle Warren tied it up with a singles win, ETSU responded with victories in three more singles matches, sealing both the championship and their advancement.

Estrella was named Most Outstanding Player of the tournament after going undefeated throughout competition week in Chattanooga. Kukreti received the Pinnacle Award for maintaining a perfect 4.0 GPA as a kinesiology major while contributing to her team’s success on court.

The Buccaneers will learn about their placement in this year’s NCAA tournament during an announcement scheduled for Monday, April 27 at 5:30 p.m., which will be broadcast on NCAA.com.
