The East Tennessee State University men’s and women’s track and field teams are set to compete at the Lee Fast Break Invitational in Cleveland, Tennessee, beginning April 10. The event will start Friday morning with the men’s hammer throw and end Saturday afternoon with the women’s 4x400m relay.
This meet is one of only two remaining before ETSU heads to the Southern Conference Outdoor Championships. Several athletes are aiming to improve their standings as the season nears its conclusion.
On the women’s side, standout performances are expected from athletes who have achieved top rankings in conference events this season. One athlete ranks third in the Southern Conference discus with a mark of 41.62 meters and fourth in hammer throw at 46.44 meters. Another team member holds top-10 positions across three throwing events: discus, shot put, and hammer throw.
Distance runners on both squads also hope to secure strong finishes this weekend. In the women’s steeplechase, one runner is ranked third in conference standings with a best time of 11:15.68, while teammates follow closely behind. Another competitor currently sits second in SoCon steeplechase rankings and will participate in her first outdoor 5000-meter run this spring.
Men’s distance runners look to maintain their lead as well; Nathan Hillis enters with the fastest conference time this season for the men’s steeplechase at 9:37.30—nearly thirteen seconds ahead of his closest rival from ETSU—and another runner seeks improvement on his sixth-ranked time for the season’s 5000-meter run.
Sprinters from both teams will compete across multiple events including sprints, hurdles, jumps, throws, and multi-event competitions such as heptathlon and decathlon as they prepare for upcoming championship meets.
