The East Tennessee State University (ETSU) men’s tennis team achieved its 13th consecutive victory on March 17 by defeating Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU) with a score of 6-1. The win brings ETSU’s season record to 13-3.

This winning streak highlights the team’s strong performance during the current campaign. ETSU won the only doubles match that was played to completion, finishing with a 6-3 result. In singles play, Martinez secured a win in the No. 1 position with scores of 7-5 and 6-4. Additional singles victories included matches ending at 6-7 (2-7), 6-1, 1-0 (10-6), and another at 6-1, 6-1. ETSU also benefited from two singles contests and one doubles match that were decided by forfeit against FGCU.

The full results show that in singles competition, ETSU players defeated Tanner Povey, Stefan Correa, and CJ Smith from FGCU, while two matches were won by forfeit due to lack of opponents from FGCU. In doubles competition, an ETSU pair defeated Stefan Correa and Pablo Paternostro of FGCU with a score of 6-3; another match was unfinished at a score of 4-3 in favor of FGCU when play stopped; and one more doubles match was awarded to ETSU by forfeit.

Looking ahead, ETSU will conclude its trip to Florida on Wednesday with its final non-conference regular season match against Florida Atlantic University (FAU). The first serve is scheduled for 5 p.m.
