The No. 68 East Tennessee State University (ETSU) men’s tennis team extended its winning streak to 12 matches on March 13 with a 6-1 victory over Mercer. The win brings ETSU’s overall record to 12-3 for the season and improves its Southern Conference (SoCon) record to 2-0.

This continued success highlights the team’s strong performance this spring, as they maintain momentum in both conference and non-conference play.

In doubles competition, ETSU won two out of three matches against Mercer. Listo and Sim clinched the doubles point for ETSU with a close 7-5 win, marking their ninth doubles victory together this season. In singles play, ETSU secured five wins out of six matches, though each contest was competitive. After early victories gave the Buccaneers a 3-0 lead, four of the remaining singles matches were decided by extra points or went to three sets. Martinez was among those who contributed singles wins for ETSU.

The full results from Friday’s match included several hard-fought contests, such as an opening singles match that saw an ETSU player defeat Isak Padio of Mercer in three sets (5-7, 6-1, 6-4), and another where Nemanja Stefanovic of Mercer edged out his opponent in a third-set tiebreaker.

Looking ahead, ETSU will travel to Florida for spring break next week. The Buccaneers are scheduled to face Florida Gulf Coast on Tuesday at 10 a.m., followed by a match against Florida Atlantic University on Wednesday.
