The East Tennessee State University (ETSU) men’s basketball team is preparing for a significant matchup against the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG) on Saturday, with an opportunity to secure their first Southern Conference (SoCon) title in six years. The game will take place at Bodford Arena in Greensboro, North Carolina, with tipoff scheduled for 4 p.m.

ETSU enters the contest with a 20-8 overall record and a 12-3 mark in conference play. If ETSU wins, they will clinch at least a share of the regular season SoCon title. The team can claim the championship outright if Wofford loses to Furman later that evening in Spartanburg.

The Buccaneers are coming off a 78-69 victory over Furman on Wednesday in Greenville. In that game, two ETSU players combined for eight three-pointers, with one tying his NCAA career-high by making six from beyond the arc.

UNCG holds a 12-16 record overall and is 8-7 in conference games. The Spartans recently saw their four-game winning streak end after conceding 91 points to Western Carolina, marking the fourth time this season they have allowed more than 90 points to a conference opponent. Justin Neely leads UNCG with averages of 18.2 points and 11.7 rebounds per game; his rebounding average ranks among the top ten nationally.

In their previous meeting this season on January 10 at Freedom Hall, ETSU defeated UNCG by a score of 86-60. One Buccaneer led all scorers with 24 points as ETSU shot nearly 60% from the field and turned a narrow halftime lead into a decisive win.

ETSU currently leads the all-time series against UNCG, holding a record of 25 wins to UNCG’s 21 through their previous 46 matchups.
