The East Tennessee State University (ETSU) baseball team secured a 16-5 victory over Quinnipiac on Sunday at Thomas Stadium, completing their third consecutive series sweep and improving their record to 9-2 for the season.

All ETSU players who had an at-bat contributed at least one hit, resulting in a total of 18 hits for the game. The top five hitters in the lineup combined for 11 hits out of 23 at-bats, collecting 13 runs batted in (RBI) and scoring seven runs. One player came close to hitting for the cycle, finishing with three hits including a home run, three RBI, and three runs scored. Another player in the ninth spot provided additional offense with three hits and four runs scored. The team’s double play combination also made significant contributions by each recording two hits and driving in four runs apiece.

On the pitching side, ETSU used eight different pitchers throughout the game. Several relievers delivered scoreless innings, while another pitcher earned his first collegiate win after efficiently throwing 1.1 innings with only 12 pitches.

Quinnipiac took an early lead with three runs in the first inning. ETSU responded by scoring in both the third and fourth innings before taking a lead in the fifth thanks to key hits from multiple players. The teams exchanged runs until they were tied at five going into the bottom of the seventh inning.

In that pivotal seventh inning, ETSU sent 12 batters to the plate and scored eight runs. Ferguson was responsible for four RBI during this frame with two singles. Other players contributed as well, helping break open the game.

Curless made his first pitching appearance of the season in the eighth inning, striking out all three batters he faced. In their half of that inning, ETSU added three more runs through consecutive doubles and a single to complete their sweep over Quinnipiac.

Looking ahead, ETSU will begin a four-game road trip on Tuesday against nationally ranked Tennessee. The matchup is scheduled for 4 p.m., broadcast on SEC Network Plus.
