The East Tennessee State University (ETSU) baseball team split a doubleheader against Belmont on April 11 in Nashville, winning the first game 8-4 and dropping the second 10-8. The results bring ETSU’s season record to 23-10.
Splitting the series matters for both teams as it affects their standings and momentum heading into upcoming games. For ETSU, securing one win out of two helps maintain a strong overall record this season.
In the first game, ETSU built an early lead by scoring across multiple innings and relied on a strong performance from its starting pitcher, who delivered 5.2 shutout innings with a career-high ten strikeouts. Four different players had multiple hits, with one going three-for-three with two runs scored and two stolen bases. Another player contributed three runs batted in (RBI), while others added doubles and key hits throughout the lineup.
Belmont responded in game two by scoring three runs in the opening inning. Although ETSU tied it up briefly, Belmont regained control and held off late rallies from the Bucs despite some insurance runs scored in later innings. One ETSU player matched his career high with four hits, while another hit a three-run home run—the team’s only long ball of the day.
Seven pitchers appeared for ETSU during the second game, including one who threw 2.2 shutout innings with three strikeouts.
Looking ahead, ETSU is scheduled to play at nationally-ranked Georgia on Tuesday at 3 p.m., with coverage available on SEC Network Plus.
