The East Tennessee State University (ETSU) baseball team won against the University of Connecticut (UConn) with a score of 6-1 on May 2, clinching the series in Storrs, Connecticut. The Buccaneers improved their overall record to 29-15 this season following the road victory.

This result is significant as it highlights ETSU’s strong performance both offensively and defensively during the game. The team recorded eight extra-base hits out of twelve total, including five doubles, two home runs, and one triple. Four players contributed with two-hit games each. Curless drove in two runs and hit his fourteenth home run of the season, while another player homered for the second day in a row.

On the pitching side, Bell delivered one of his best outings this year by throwing a career-high seven and one-third innings. He allowed only an unearned run on six singles and struck out four batters without issuing any walks or hitting any batters. Curless also contributed on the mound by securing the final five outs for his fourth save this season.

The Buccaneers took an early lead in the second inning after capitalizing on a UConn error that allowed them to score from first base. They extended their advantage in the third inning through consecutive doubles. Bell maintained control throughout much of his appearance, aided by solid defensive plays including two double plays and an impressive stretch where he retired eleven hitters consecutively.

Late in the game, Guanzon hit a triple to increase ETSU’s lead before Ferguson and Curless added back-to-back solo home runs in the eighth inning to make it 5-0. UConn managed an unearned run in their half of the eighth but could not mount a comeback as Curless closed out the game effectively.

The series between ETSU and UConn will conclude Sunday with first pitch scheduled for 11 a.m.
