The East Tennessee State University (ETSU) baseball team won its final road game of the season with a 9-5 victory over Wofford on May 10. The win brings ETSU’s overall record to 30-19 and their conference record to 10-8. This marks the third consecutive season that ETSU has achieved at least 30 wins, a feat last accomplished by the program from 1980 to 1982.
The Buccaneers recorded a total of 13 hits during the game, with four players collecting multiple hits. Two players each had three hits, contributing significantly to the team’s offensive performance. Another player collected two hits and led ETSU with three runs batted in, while another went two-for-five with two runs scored and one RBI.
On the mound, ETSU used just three pitchers throughout the contest. The starting pitcher threw for five and one-third innings, allowing two runs on six hits while striking out five batters. Jones followed from the bullpen for three and one-third innings before another reliever closed out the game by recording the final out.
After both teams were scoreless through two innings, ETSU broke through in the third inning by scoring five runs on five hits. Key contributions included RBI singles from Melendez, Palmer, Ault, as well as an RBI groundout that fueled their early lead. Despite solo home runs by Logan Timblin for Wofford in later innings narrowing the gap slightly, ETSU extended its advantage in the seventh inning with additional RBIs from Ault and Conner.
Wofford managed to score three more runs in their final at-bat before Carwile came in as relief to secure ETSU’s victory.
Looking ahead, ETSU will begin a three-game series against Mercer at Thomas Stadium starting Thursday evening at 5 p.m., with coverage available on ESPN+.
