The East Tennessee State University (ETSU) baseball team defeated The Citadel 12-1 on April 19 at Thomas Stadium, securing its sixth consecutive series victory. With this win, the Buccaneers improved their overall record to 25-12 and moved to 8-4 in Southern Conference play.

This result highlights ETSU’s continued strong performance this season as the team maintains momentum in conference competition. Their consistent wins could have implications for postseason positioning and morale as the season progresses.

During Sunday’s game, ETSU recorded a total of 16 hits, including three home runs. The top four hitters in the lineup were particularly effective, combining for a .632 batting average with ten runs scored and nine runs batted in. Notably, one player matched his career-high with five RBIs through a three-run home run and a two-run double. Another player achieved his first four-hit game as a Buccaneer by going four-for-five at bat. Additional contributions included another four-hit performance and multi-hit efforts from several teammates, with multiple players hitting home runs during the game.

On the mound, freshman pitcher Jones started and threw over six innings—his longest outing so far—allowing just one run on four hits while striking out eight batters to tie his season best. Jones earned his third win of the year before being relieved by Brosnan and another bullpen pitcher who both kept The Citadel scoreless for the remainder of the game.

ETSU established an early lead when Palmese hit a three-run homer in the first inning following singles by Ferguson and Curless. In later innings, additional doubles extended their advantage before late-game homers from Conner and Fetterman secured a run-rule finish.

Looking ahead, ETSU is scheduled to play Appalachian State on Tuesday at 6 p.m., continuing its schedule against regional rivals.
