East Tennessee State women’s basketball defeats Western Carolina to close home schedule

East Tennessee State University’s women’s basketball team concluded its home schedule for the 2025-26 season with a 61-51 win over Western Carolina. The game, held at Brooks Gym in Johnson City, saw the Buccaneers finish their home campaign with a balanced 7-7 record.

Before tipoff, seniors were honored for their contributions to the program during a senior day ceremony.

Junior guard Daniela Lopez led ETSU in scoring with 15 points. She made three three-pointers and shot 6-of-9 from the field. Lopez also set a career and game high with five steals, tying the team’s individual single-game best this season. Her stat line included one assist and four rebounds.

Senior forward contributed on both ends of the court, recording two blocks, two steals, six rebounds, and nine points on 4-of-9 shooting. She also added an assist.

Three other Buccaneers each scored seven points: senior guards , , and sophomore guard . Nelson recorded six assists—her third game this season surpassing five—and Harper finished with four rebounds, one assist, one steal, and seven points.

Sophomore guard connected on two three-point shots for the ninth time this season. Freshman guard went perfect from the free throw line (4-for-4), while also collecting a rebound, a steal, and two assists.

Head Coach has improved her record against Western Carolina to 7-1 during her tenure at ETSU. This remains her best record against any Southern Conference opponent since taking charge of the program.

As a team, ETSU finished with 61 points, 24 rebounds, 11 steals (including ten in the first half), 14 assists, and two blocks. The squad made seven three-pointers in a game for just the eighth time this season.

The Buccaneers will play their final two regular-season games on the road: Thursday, February 26 at Mercer and Saturday, February 28 at Samford.
