East Tennessee State University’s softball team will begin its Southern Conference schedule at home against UNC Greensboro on March 21 and 22, according to a March 20 announcement. The games will take place at Betty Basler Field in Johnson City, with a doubleheader scheduled for the first day.

The series marks the start of conference play for both teams, with East Tennessee State entering with a record of 12-8 and UNC Greensboro at 19-12. The opening doubleheader is set for March 21 at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m., followed by a single game on March 22 at 1 p.m.

Recent performances have highlighted several standout moments for the Buccaneers. During the Winthrop Invitational, one player recorded three home runs over three games, including a game-winning hit in a victory over Bucknell. The team also swept Alabama A&M in a recent doubleheader, with Fowler and Muncy each earning wins as pitchers. Another notable achievement was an 8-7 win over TSU, where one pitcher threw more than five innings without allowing any walks.

The Buccaneers’ offense set a facility record at Betty Basler Field by scoring 17 runs in a shutout win over Tennessee State, marking their second-best offensive performance since scoring 21 runs against NC A&T in 2002. In that game, nearly every player contributed offensively, with multiple players recording hits and runs.

Looking ahead, East Tennessee State is scheduled to play 52 regular season games—25 at home and 27 on the road—against opponents from ten different conferences. Head coach Cheryl Milligan enters her fourth season leading the program and aims to improve upon her current record with ETSU. The roster features a mix of experienced returners and new talent across all class years.
