East Tennessee State University’s softball team lost both games of a doubleheader against the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga on April 11. The Buccaneers fell 0-5 in the first game and 0-1 in eight innings in the second game at Frost Stadium.
The losses are significant for East Tennessee State, which now holds a record of 15 wins and 19 losses overall, with three wins and eight losses in Southern Conference play. The defeats also mark continued challenges for the team as they approach the end of their conference schedule.
In the first game, East Tennessee State managed only one hit—a collegiate double registered by a player in the top of the seventh inning. Two other players reached base via a walk and being hit by a pitch. Defensively, one player led with three assists and two putouts, while pitchers from both teams recorded nine strikeouts collectively—the most for East Tennessee State in a conference matchup this season.
The second game was closely contested, going into extra innings before Chattanooga secured victory with a walk-off double. East Tennessee State’s offense produced five hits from different players but could not convert them into runs. Muncy pitched her first complete game of the season for East Tennessee State, allowing just one run on six hits while tying her season-high with seven strikeouts over eight innings.
Looking ahead, East Tennessee State will attempt to secure a win in the series finale scheduled for Sunday at Frost Stadium.
