East Tennessee State University’s softball team concluded its 2026 season on May 8 with a narrow 5-4 defeat against Wofford in game seven of the Southern Conference Tournament at Frost Stadium in Chattanooga, Tennessee. The Buccaneers finished the year with a record of 22 wins and 30 losses overall, including an 8-13 mark in conference play.

The outcome marked the end of a competitive campaign for East Tennessee State, highlighted by two consecutive one-run losses to close out tournament play. The team opened strong against Wofford, scoring three runs in the first inning through a combination of walks, singles from Boone and Lutu, and an error by their opponent. Despite putting runners on base throughout every inning—a first for them during this tournament—the Bucs were unable to sustain their early momentum.

Wofford took control in the bottom of the fifth inning after a series of walks and fielder’s choices set up back-to-back doubles that brought home five runs combined. East Tennessee State responded with another run in the sixth when Martens doubled and was driven home by Porter’s sacrifice fly. In the seventh inning, Lutu hit another double to keep hopes alive but ultimately could not score.

Several Buccaneers contributed notable performances: Boone went two-for-three at bat with both an RBI single and a double; Porter collected one hit along with an RBI sacrifice fly; Martens recorded two hits including a double while also contributing defensively; Lutu drove in runs both early and late; Rieger added another hit at the plate; Stowell scored after her own single led off an early rally. Pitcher Muncy threw six innings—her seventh complete game since April—holding Wofford scoreless for five frames while limiting them to six hits overall.

The team ended its final contest tallying nine hits across twenty-nine at-bats, four runs scored, three RBIs, two walks drawn, six assists registered defensively through eighteen putouts.
