East Tennessee State falls to Mercer in close women’s basketball contest

East Tennessee State University’s women’s basketball team lost a close game to Mercer on Tuesday night, with a final score of 45-50. The matchup took place in Johnson City, Tennessee, and leaves both teams at 5-4 in the Southern Conference standings.

A senior forward led East Tennessee State with 10 rebounds, marking her seventh double-digit rebounding performance this season. She also contributed eight points and two blocks. So far this season, she has recorded multiple blocks in 13 out of 21 games and at least one block in 20 of those contests.

Sophomore guards Richardson and Harper both scored in double figures for the third consecutive game. Richardson finished with 12 points on five-of-16 shooting, adding two rebounds, two steals, and two assists. Harper scored 10 points, including two three-pointers, while collecting four rebounds, one assist, and one steal.

A graduate guard added eight points by going five-for-five from the free throw line and collected four rebounds along with two assists.

Junior guard Daniela Lopez moved closer to reaching a career milestone by scoring three points to bring her total to 499 career points. She also grabbed four rebounds during the game.

The team finished with totals of 45 points, 40 rebounds, seven assists, three steals, and two blocks.

East Tennessee State will next face Chattanooga on Saturday, February 14 at 2 p.m. The game will be played in Chattanooga.
