Distance runners from the East Tennessee State University (ETSU) women’s indoor track and field team achieved notable performances at the Darius Dixon Memorial Invitational in Lynchburg, Virginia, over the weekend.
Beach and Carmyn Johnson both set personal records in the indoor 5000-meter race. Beach finished fourth in the 5k invitational race with a time of 17:27.93. Johnson secured ETSU’s only podium finish of the weekend, placing third in the 5k open race with a time of 17:55.98. Another ETSU runner placed fourth in the same event with an 18:03.90, while Gracie Franklin completed her race in 18:12.36.
The distance medley relay team—consisting of Beach, Deena Lutdke, and two other teammates—recorded a time of 12:10.80. This result ranks as the 77th-best in Division I this season, is currently the 15th best time in the NCAA South Region, and is second among Southern Conference (SoCon) teams during the current indoor season.
Other notable performances included an improved season-best mark of 55.72 seconds by one athlete in the 400 meters, ranking third best in SoCon for that event and finishing 11th overall at Lynchburg. Another runner placed tenth in the 500 meters with a time of 1:23.39, while another athlete posted a season-best of 28.56 seconds in the open 200-meter sprint.
In field events, Fulford achieved a season-best high jump of 1.54 meters and another competitor set a personal best with a weight throw distance of 14.20 meters, placing her seventh so far this season within SoCon competition.
The ETSU team will participate next at Tryon International for the Tryon Banked Invitational before heading to the SoCon Indoor Championships.
